I cut the paper out of mine (the paper is stronger than I thought). I bought foam at Wal-mart for around 2-3 bucks (used in Jet VAC vacuums) and cut it to size. I then bought oil spray for foam air filters and coated it. It fits just snug and doesn't require any fastners to hold it it. Every few months, I just remove the foam, rinse it it warm soapy water, let it sun dry, spray oil on it and put it back in. Haven't bought another 32$ filter from Suzuki since. Also, I think the bike breathes better now as an added benefit. Good Luck.
